Our snowfall on Thursday evening and Friday doesn’t seem so impressive compared to what fell in the Northeast over the weekend, but it was enough that the kids got a snow day on Friday.
We woke up to about 10inches of snow and it was still coming down. I let the children sleep in and was waiting until daylight so I could go clear the driveway. By the time I got ready to go outside I discovered my neighbor had come over and cleared the sidewalk and our driveway with his snow-blower.
My son was thrilled with the amount of snow, even if it was too light and fluffy to make good snowballs.
There was still the matter of the street however. I’d have been happy to hunker down inside for the day, but our visiting tennis pro needed to get to the tennis center for a match. Fortunately my husband had a snow day as well so I was able to use his all-wheel drive Subaru. No way my little Volkswagon would have made it down the street!
Even the Subaru had a hard time with this much snow. I got stuck getting out of the driveway and slipped my way down the street until I got a main road which had been cleared.
I ended up having to try my luck with my Volkswagon on Sunday and didn’t do too badly, mostly because so much snow had been packed down by other cars and then frozen over night. When I returned home later in the afternoon, the plow had finally come down our street.
Now temperatures are supposed to be above freezing and it was drizzling last night – a recipe for ice, ice, ice. All my native Michigan neighbors have told me that weather in Michigan is unpredictable but this is ridiculous!

I love the photograph of your son with the ruler! He would have needed a yardstick in our area. It’s quite a challenge driving on those snowy streets – four wheel drive or not! We awoke to rain/sleet/snow this morning. Quite a change!
