February Snow

When the weatherman warned of a winter storm with 6-10 inches of snow possible, I have to admit I didn’t take it as seriously as I might have otherwise. I expected we would get some snow but doubted that we’d get as much as they predicted. I can’t tell you how many times they have called for snow this winter only for us to get next to nothing – I could see my grass up until a couple of days ago. I can tell you that my 12 year old daughter has become bitter about it though – she has no faith in meteorologists these days.

We did get the predicted snow fall this time and it is still snowing. Thank goodness for kind neighbors with snow blowers because I can’t begin to imagine how long it would have taken to clear our driveway and walk with a shovel!

The children have a snow day off school, as does my husband. It might be a good day to have gone to the local sledding hill, provided we could get down our street. We went a few weekends ago on a Sunday morning and had the place to ourselves. I had thought it was just a hill but in fact the city has a snow machine to top it off and they manicure it too because when we arrived at 9am, it was pristine and packed down hard. Perfect sledding conditions.

You can’t really tell in this picture how high the hill is but trust me when I say it was quite an adrenaline rush when I took my turn going down!

There will be no sledding today though. Instead we will have to brave the roads to get our visiting tennis pro to the tennis center for her next doubles match in the afternoon. I think I’ll pack us a lunch and the children and I can watch the action and save sledding for tomorrow!

Bah-humbug! (Yes, I’m jealous.) Please send snow this way. Thanks.
