Gotta Start Somewhere

Today is the first day back to school for the children after the holidays and I decided not to waste anymore time implementing the various home improvement plans I’ve been making in my head.

First up, the kitchen cabinet makeover.

Our realtor suggested refacing these particular cabinets with glass doors and I like that idea a lot. I haven’t actually looked in to how much that would cost, but until then I thought I’d try out the open storage look. It seems to be a hot new trend based on all the pictures I’ve been seeing in home decorating magazines.

Voila!

I will paint the insides of the cabinets white to complete the look and I might even check into seeing how much plexiglass shelves would cost to replace the wood. It would look pretty to have a light mounted inside eventually too – and that is all aside from new countertops and a snazzy backsplash. For now I’m just happy to let the sun shine on my pretty goblets.

I see a trip to Home Depot in my future…

How nice to show of that beautiful glassware! I refer to HD as Home-Away-from-Home Depot. I am there every weekend!

My husband doesn’t seem so impressed by the open shelving idea so far. I know what it can look like, he can’t imagine it. Also, he’s thinking about dust on the glasses. I guess we’ll see – and if there is dust then we’ll have to ante up for glass fronted doors!

PS – and how kind of you not to comment on the ridiculous amount of glassware we have :)

I love the open look. Once you get it all painted, he’ll probably come around. Personally I would stick with the wood shelves.
