With the roses on the way out, I stopped by one of the many florist / nurseries in my neighborhood and bought myself two pots of gerber daisies – in orange and pink as it happens. I love gerber daisies, they’re so cheerful, I just couldn’t resist.
I asked the man helping me how long they would last. I loved his response. He didn’t know the answer to my question, but instead of just saying “I don’t know” he said, “Maybe they live five years, maybe I live one month. Who knows?”
Amused as I was by his answer, I looked it up when I got home. The daisies could be perennial if I’m both nice to them and lucky. Otherwise I will likely get a few good months out of them. Either way, not a bad deal for $4 each.

Oooh. I love gerber daisies. Actually love any kind of daisy. That was my wedding flower. I think we should all have flowers around us. And potted ones are best because they don’t die nearly as quickly. They’re lovely. Enjoy!

Deidre – we’ll see how it goes with the gerber daisies. My house tends to be a bit dark which isn’t what they prefer. Also, I think they are a bit like african violets in their preferences and I have never been able to grow one of those! I’ll think I’ll be happy if I can keep it going for a short while to enjoy the blooms it has
